Don’t forget that permits are required for boat-in camping on Tomales Bay and Lake Sonoma. Permits sell out fast, and are available 6 months in advance on www.recreation.gov (links below):
Gear Shuttle Service is available for Tours only on Tomales Bay and for Rentals or Tours on Lake Sonoma starting 2017.
Tomales Bay has become a very popular area to camp on the weekends, and due to that the permits tend to sell out. Accordingly, we have developed a group camping program which groups of 6 or less are invited to join. (Private camps can be set up for larger groups on any day by calling in) We set up a waterside camp every Saturday from April-November that is reached by a scenic paddle, equipped with tables, camp chairs, camp stove, firewood for one fire, fresh water, and staffed by our capable and friendly kayak guides. All that you need to bring is your food for the trip, tent, sleeping bag/ pad, and anything else you would like to have on your adventure. Arrive at 10am, load your gear on to our motorboat, and then enjoy the beautiful paddle to your campsite with your knowledgeable guides. On all our group camps, your guide and camp host will lead guided tours from camp for anyone who wants to explore Tomales Bay after the sun goes down. On dark nights we’ll explore the shoreline and be thrilled by the natural light show in the water that is bioluminescence, and on moonlit nights we’ll paddle in the glow of glorious moonlight and stars. (There is still a slight chance to see bioluminescence on these moonlit nights if the fog comes in) Both are wonderful and exciting experiences! In both cases, your night will end with you sleeping peacefully at the waters edge.

Additional options for boat-in camping are available this year with 2 new launching locations on Lake Sonoma. (Lake Sonoma Resort Area & Yorty Creek) There is usually more availability for permits, much warmer weather, extensive trail systems surrounding the Warm Springs Arm of Lake Sonoma, dog friendly choices for camping or hiking, sites for groups of up to 150 people to camp together, and so much more! Car camping is also available at the Lake Sonoma Resort Area if you would prefer not to boat-in camp and just paddle for the day. (Also very convenient for anyone who would like to arrive the night before and avoid the early drive.) Ever tried Stand Up Paddle Board camping or Mountain Bike camping? There is also options to rent a nice comfy inner tube to float on once you get to your beach.
We also offer a Hosted Group Camp at Lake Sonoma every full moon weekend, where we will set up the same campsite as described above. The main difference between this camp and our guided group camp is that you get to enjoy the paddle to camp with just your group, and your guide will be waiting for you on the beach with camp set up and ready.
